If you’re shipping items contained in glass bottles, such as wine and spirits, it’s important to choose the right packaging. Sometimes you will need to look into a bespoke option to best suit your requirements. Springpack offer bespoke packaging options to all of our customers, so it’s worth getting in touch if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

Why is it important to package wine bottles currently?

There are many reasons why it’s important to pack wine bottles properly for postage. Obviously the number one reason is to avoid glass breakages. Not only is this frustrating to the recipient, but it’s also dangerous.

Packaging bottles correctly will avoid spillages and prevent the contents from spoiling. Not to mention improving all round customer experience. Getting your packaging right can save you a lot of money in refunds, and is therefore essential to retailers.

How to package a bottle of wine for shipping

The best way to pack your wine bottles is to ensure movement is as limited as possible. We recommend using inflatable bottle bags which can be easily inflated using our 3.5 litre Air Compressor. Another option is to use cardboard dividers, bubble wrap or air cushion packaging

Wine and alcohol should be shipped standing up too. You’ll need to ensure the product is packed this way, but also that it’s labelled correctly. A label indicating the way the box should sit, as well marking it as FRAGILE, is essential.

Ensure the bottoms are taped up securely, as well as the top – it’s better to be overly cautious and avoid any potential breakages in the box.

Are there any legal restrictions or guidelines on packaging for alcohol or glass bottles?

Things to consider when shipping alcohol are;

  • The customs and shipping regulations for not only the country you’re sending from, but also sending to
  • If you’re sending alcohol, do you have the correct documentation and permits to do so? Will your courier allow it? For example, some couriers will not transport beverages that exceed 70% alcohol by volume (ABV). Always check!
