Why use acid free tissue paper?

Acid free tissue paper is a great tool for adding an extra layer of protection when sending products via post or courier. It can also offer an extra level of presentation. But do you know the differences between acid free and regular tissue paper? We’ve been looking into the differences, and how you can choose the right one for your packaging needs!

Why use acid free tissue paper?

‘Acid free’ means that the paper’s pH is 7.0 or higher, which makes it alkaline. This kind of paper has less chemical agents involved in the manufacturing process, which makes it a more environmentally friendly option.

The benefits of using acid free paper in your packaging is that it offers good protection, with the reassurance of not staining your items. It also has stringent limits on metallic content, and can’t use any optical brighteners which give the paper it’s clean white finish.

Is all tissue paper acid free?

No – paper can be acid free or non acid free. They have different purposes, which is why it’s important to check which type of paper is best for the product you’re packing.

Standard tissue paper of course still has a place in packaging and presentation. It’s ideally suited to less sensitive packages and filling gift bags or similar.

Is acid free tissue paper food safe?

Yes! It’s generally safe to use with food packaging. All of the acid free paper supplied by Springpack is suitable for use with food products. We think they look great with artisan breads or cupcake deliveries!

We always recommend double checking products from other suppliers to make sure though. If you’re looking for more presentation tips, check out our Christmas Packaging blog for inspiration!

Is acid free tissue paper recyclable or biodegradable?

The great news is that by using this type of paper, you’re making a responsible environmental choice, as it is biodegradable! It’s also great for composting, as it will absorb any nasty odours in your pile!

Because the paper is made from either wood fibres or recycled materials, it means it is completely recyclable. Regular tissue paper is not always recyclable, so you should check with your supplier. If it isn’t, you should dispose of it in your general waste.

As part of our continued drive to make Springpack more environmentally friendly, we’re offering more eco-friendly products to our customers – and ensuring we use them ourselves!
