ANDYSMANCLUB

August

ANDYSMANCLUB aims to break down the stigma of men’s mental health.

On average, every two hours a man in the UK takes his own life. ANDYSMANCLUB works to break down stigmas around mental health, support men struggling, and lend a hand to suicide prevention.

They run peer-to-peer support groups for men aged 18+ going through storms in their lives. The clubs are held every Monday at 7 pm (excluding bank holidays).

Clubs are free to attend with no registration required.

The group was founded after the death by suicide of Andy Roberts. Andy gave no indication to his family that he was suicidal, as a result, his brother-in-law, Luke Ambler, and mother, Elaine Roberts, founded ANDYSMANCLUB in the hope that men who struggled to open up had a safe space to do so.

The first ANDYSMANCLUB session ran in Halifax in 2016, with 9 men in attendance on the night. The groups follow the same model they did on the first night and are now available in hundreds of locations nationwide, stretching from Plymouth to Aberdeen. Following on from the COVID-19 pandemic, ANDYSMANCLUB created an online function via Google Meet. This follows the same model and enables men who cannot leave their home due to a variety of issues to join sessions. In the long-term, the charity aims to have a location within 30 minutes travel of any man in the UK.

Malvern Hills Challenge

September

The Malvern Hills Challenge is an annual event supporting Help for Heroes, raising over £135,000 in the last 15 years.

Help for Heroes is the UK’s top Armed Forces charity, aiding veterans’ transition to civilian life. They offer tailored support, including healthcare, counselling, and financial grants, ensuring veterans and their families thrive after service. The Malvern Hills Challenge is an event that raises money for Help for Heroes.

This family and dog-friendly challenge draws 350 to 500 walkers annually, and offers two scenic routes: an 18km trek from Bromsberrow to Malvern or a 9km walk from British Camp.

Participants receive an event t-shirt, reusable water bottle, and finishers medal.

The event often features surprises like live performances and a possible Spitfire flypast. By joining, you’ll enjoy stunning views, camaraderie, and the satisfaction of supporting wounded ex-service personnel.

There’s also the opportunity to sponsor the event or raise additional funds via JustGiving. This is more than just a walk, it’s a meaningful contribution to a vital cause.

The Malvern Hills Challenge takes place every year in September, and this year is taking place on Saturday 13th.

brainstrust

October

Brain tumour treatment is complex and harmful, and diagnosis brings with it an enormous impact on well-being and mental health.

brainstrust offers support to anybody with any time of brain tumour.

Every year, brainstrust hosts their Wear Grey Campaign. The Wear Grey Campaign encourages those taking part to wear grey for a week in October, to raise awareness of brain tumours, and raise vital funds for brainstrust to continue their amazing work.

In 2020, Maggs launched it’s accommodation project, which offers a “Stepping-Stone” back into permanent housing, and they continue to offer support once the person is housed.

Maggs offers a place of stability, a free hot breakfast and, through their clothing project, offers clothing and bedding to its service users.

Teckles

December

Teckles is an independent charity based in Whitminster, Gloucestershire.  They provide a safe-haven for cats and dogs who may have been neglected, abandoned or surrendered.

They believe every animal deserves a chance of happiness, no matter how long it takes.
