Is Bespoke Packaging Expensive?
Bespoke packaging is used by companies world wide. It is increasingly more common to see companies use bespoke and custom packaging solutions.
If you’ve arrived at this article, it’s likely you’re researching the cost of switching to custom packaging designs – so keep on reading to learn more about pricing, hidden costs, and how bespoke packaging could even save you money!
What is bespoke packaging?
Bespoke or custom packaging materials are materials that are made specifically for your business or purpose. It can vary in type, complexity, price, materials, and credentials. Custom packaging is all about what you want from your packaging, what works well for you, and what you want to achieve.
At Springpack, we offer many options for bespoke packaging, just about anything we sell can be made to bespoke specifications (perhaps except for our toilet tissue – though, there is a website for that).
With Springpack, you can create bespoke packaging online, using our free design tool. With this tool you can design materials such as Tape, Boxes and Mailing Bags, or submit an enquiry for something else.

What are the benefits of bespoke packaging ?
Environmental
Switching to custom packaging can have the advantages of reducing your carbon footprint.
Boxes suited better to your needs will require less additional packaging. A smaller box will need less protective materials. A box with an integrated peel and seal strip will require less tape. Boxes that can fit better together on a pallet can increase the amount you can send per pallet, reducing the need to over-wrap pallets to compensate for gaps.
Financial
As mentioned above, bespoke packaging solutions can reduce the amount of additional packaging you are using.
This can bring down your average spend per pack, and optimise the amount of packed boxes you can ship on your pallet. It’s no suprise that increasing the amount of parcels on each pallet will bring down costs as your pallet moves throughout the supply chain.
Another financial benefit is that it can speed up how long it takes to pack each box. A great example of this is switching from a traditional 0201 box that needs tape added, to a crash lock base (this is a base that can be assembled just by pressing the sides together) speeds up box assembly.
A further financial benefit is that packaging that fits your products perfectly works to reduce damages. A thicker box will be sturdier and able to withstand heavier products, which can reduce damages.
Marketing
Bespoke e-commerce packaging is a great marketing tool – your box design is often the first impression consumers will have of your brand. Why not incorporate your brand guidelines into your packaging?
Whilst a plain box is perfectly acceptable to receive products in, customers will appreciate a premium feeling unboxing experience, reinforcing your brand awareness and identity
How to design bespoke packaging?
Designing bespoke packaging with Springpack is easy!

Is Bespoke Packaging Expensive?
There’s no simple answer to this question, it all depends on your point of view.
It’s true that box that is the same spec as your existing boxes with your logo added will likely cost you a few pence more per unit, but do you really need that spec? Could a bespoke solution save you more in other ways?
A key thing to remember here is that a custom box (or tape, void fill, mailing bags) is made to your exact specifications. This includes fluting, height of box, width of box, the way the box closes, and how strong it is. You could be paying more for features you simply don’t need, and a bespoke size could bring your cost per pack down.
Can bespoke packaging save money?
Absolutely. Bespoke and custom packaging can save you money in a number of ways:
Reduce transport costs - more to a pallet:
Optimising the amount of usable space on your pallet is a no-brainer! Selecting boxes that are smaller, or fit better on a pallet can increase both your usable space and load stability.
Reduce additional materials required:
Only using the right size box will lead to a reduction in the amount of additional packaging materials you will need!
Similarly, using the ideal thickness or adhesive tape will avoid needing to use more tape than needed.
Your marketing team will love it:
Get your brand out there and increase brand recognition, combine your marketing into your packaging, and get key messages or promotions out there. This “Two Birds, One Stone” Approach can be incredibly cost effective.
Are there hidden costs in bespoke packaging?
When you purchase bespoke, custom or branded packaging from Springpack, there are no hidden costs.
We will always show the real cost, including tooling and stereo costs, as well as any storage costs (if you have a call off agreement) on your quote. The price you see is the price you pay.
How long does it take to make custom packaging?
The time it takes to create custom packaging varies on a number of factors. Often, lead time can be as little as two weeks.
When you place your bespoke packaging order with us, we will advise you of the lead time.
